![]() ![]() If you've ever tried to plug a fuzz face after a bunch of pedals and it acts weird - this is because of impedance. ![]() In practical terms you just need to understand that certain devices don't like to interact with others in certain orders, or it will throw off the tone of the signal. When you plug your guitar into a pedal or an amp the interaction between the two can set an impedance. Presenting it with an instrument level signal means it will be too weak to be optimally received by that input.Īlso relevant is impedance. So a line level input is expecting to receive a signal at a certain strength. You also have speaker level which is extremely powerful and is what comes from the speaker output of a tube amp. This is the level is usually the output of a preamp. ![]() The signal coming directly from your pickups is at instrument level. This helps things be consistent across different product lines when it comes to signal level. There are a few 'standards' for audio signals. It has an instrument input whereas the Q502 has only a Line In (Balance or Unbalanced), can you eli5 what this means? This includes stuff like the instrument / line input switch or a PAD or possibly an insert to bypass the preamp. You just don't want a crappy preamp that degrades your tone quality. A preamp can be clean with minimal coloring, while others have pretty desirable coloration and saturation potential. Preamps always have a 'sound' quality that they impart on the signal. If it has a gain control, it has a preamp. You want it to be clean and crisp with quality drivers to keep latency low. This converts the signal from analog to digital on the way in, and digital to analog on the way back out. ![]() Speaker outputs for headphones or monitors. First, it needs to have proper inputs and outputs for your application. You want your interface do a couple important tasks. I did a comparison video with the popular Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. it delivers low noise and high output gain ideal for single- and multi-voice/instrument recording.I have a Behringer UMC204HD - which is kind of like the larger brother to the UM2 with some more features. Delivers crystal-clear audio - the studio-grade mxl 770 condenser mic equipped with a high-quality fet preamp and transformerless balanced output. it offers +48v phantom power so you use any condenser mic. Easily record with u-phoria - the um2 audio interface lets you record vocals as you play an instrument with its combo xlr/trs mic and line-level input directly to a mac/windows pc. it works best for smooth audio reproduction. Reproduces vocals and string instruments accurately - the microphone features a flat frequency response of 30 hz to 20 khz and up to 137db spl max handling. its low-frequency roll-off switch minimizes the low-noise rumbles pickup. Isolates background noise and rumbling - the mic's cardioid polar pattern reduces off-axis audio and suppresses unwanted feedback. It works best for smooth audio reproduction.
